The Marker Features

Designed by instructors for instructors, 'The Marker' gives the power to carefully review each learner’s progress and to grade and give quality feedback as quickly as possible. 

Although these two main objectives, quality and speed, often conflict with each other, by centralizing ‘Marking Tasks and Tools’, automating marking and utilizing cutting-edge video streaming technology; The Marker gives instructors unprecedented speed and power.

Fly through Marking

The biggest problem with many elearning systems isn’t the lack of functions or features; it’s the lack of automation and poor navigation.  The Marker takes time consuming chores away from instructors by automatically marking and scoring 70% of activities. 

Unmarked activities which require review (audio/video recordings and open-writing), are placed in a ‘Task List’ so that instructors don’t have check through dozens of courses and hundreds of lessons to find them. 

What’s more, the unified ‘Task List’ orders ‘unmarked activities’ chronologically, so instructors always know what to mark first.  No more de-motivated learners as a result of long feedback times.

WebSwami is built to integrate with your current Learning Management System (LMS), so groups/classes are listed according to those assigned in your LMS’s courses.  All of these  groupings are accessible on the Marker Screen; so you can reach any learner’s answers quickly and reduce online administration.

Give Better, Faster Feedback

Learners love and benefit from 1-to-1 attention. Unfortunately however this has been prohibitively expensive, and for instructors too time-consuming.  With WebSwami this impossible dream just became a reality.  Instructors can give individual attention and quality feedback by leaving a personal video message, which appears to the learner in their ‘Message List’ as soon as they log-in.

With Video Mentoring instructors can use any techniques or tricks normally used in the classroom such as props to illustrate, actions to describe, and demonstrating mouth shapes to improve pronunciation;- and of course, smiling to motivate!

Unlike all other systems, video messaging is completely integrated into WebSwami.  By just clicking the 'Record Video Feedback’ button instructors can instantly record a video message - there’s no need to record the video into a camera, transfer it to a computer, convert it, upload it, and finally link it – who said technology needs to be difficult? 

No matter where you might be, in a café, in a hotel, or even using 3G at the beach, armed with just a PC and WebCam you are always with your learners.

Of course there’s also audio and slower text messaging, but once you (and your learners) start enjoying the ease and magic of Video Mentoring you’ll never look back.

Easy Reporting and Detailed Assessments

The central part of The Marker screen  - the ‘Marker Grid’ - shows colour-coded cells representing the status of activities (correct, incorrect, marked, unmarked etc.).  This colour-coding makes it easy to see incomplete parts of lessons / tests, and where there might be common weaknesses amongst leaners that may require extra instruction.

A score is shown on each cell in the marker grid, so that both the activity status and grade are shown simultaneously.  Grades can be changed by simply clicking on a cell and adjusting the score.

As well as individual activity scores, each lesson has an automatic breakdown of scores for each learner by ‘Lesson Total’ and ‘Section Total’.  For example, a language test can be divided into more meaningful grades for oral, listening, grammar and vocabulary sections; or a product sales training session can be divided into topics, with separate scores for sections such as Product Introduction, Dealing with Objections, Cross Selling etc. The ‘Save as Excel File’ button exports data to Microsoft Office or any other program you use to write course reports. 

The Marker gives much greater insight into the strengths and weaknesses of individual learners and groupings, without the time-consuming analysis.  

Test Management

Rather than learners taking turns to record role-plays, the Marker lets you test 20, 50, or even 100s of learners concurrently, while taking advantage of WebSwami’s real-time simulations, multi-skill activities, and fun but focussed exercises.  Learners get a chance to give accurate performances for all topics in a more relaxed environment.  For instructors it means less time is needed to organize and administrate tests.  With auto-marked exercises and a rapid marking interface (no need for fast-forwarding/rewinding tapes), examination marking is sped-up significantly.

The Marker even allows the management of scheduled tests for distance learners in, with controls for starting and stopping tests and online students highlighted to show present attendees.  This can result in significant computer cost savings.

During ‘Test Mode’ learners cannot see exercise answers or their score.
