We are very pleased to announce the release of WebSwami Version 2.0. This update includes some new popularly-requested functionality, a number of interface improvements, as well as a significant change “under the bonnet”:
New Functionality
Students can now download videos they record in WebSwami or copy and paste the video links to play inside LMS forums, message boards and Facebook etc. Great for building personal portfolios and for peer review/collaborative learning.
- Students receive an email message and link notifying them of when their instructor has left them a message – greatly increasing motivation.
- Instructors are able to download student recordings from the Learner or copy their links to play them in message boards or forums.
- Instructors can mark submitted written assignments using rich text.
Interface Updates
- Enlarging the Voice Graph on Practice activities for easier and more accurate rhythm, stress and tone analysis and pronunciation practice.
- Full screen playback of Task Media and Student Recordings.
- Enlarged media boxes (for video and images) on mouseover in Matching activity.
- Blinking “Recording Now” prompt for learners.
- Answer key colour/pattern change to assist visually impaired students.
Structural Upgrades
- Separating the WebSwami application from the Learning Platform server, whilst maintaining WebSwami’s unrivalled seamless integration.
Coming Soon
As well as the above, work is nearing completion on our adoption of LTI, through which WebSwami will automatically integrate with the large majority of the leading LMS including Blackboard, D2L, Sakai – as well as Moodle of course – in some situations without installing any additional software!
This major advancement not only immediately enables a huge new market to access WebSwami, but also means that users are safe in the knowledge that WebSwami is portable to almost any other LMS that their institution may consider in the future. Publishers will benefit by developing courses that are as platform compatible as SCORM, but also take advantage of WebSwami interactivity not found elsewhere.
